New Holocaust Education Center Building Floor Plans
The former administration building will be replaced by a multi-story building. The main floor of this building will feature the new Holocaust Center with permanent and special exhibit galleries, classrooms, a new entrance way and lobby and connecting passages to the 230-seat auditorium and existing galleries.
The second floor will feature all administrative offices as well as a conference room and storage space. Additionally, a balcony off the second floor will provide a bird’s eye view for staff to see activity in the Center. The basement floor will house archives, collections and conservation space.
Once inside, visitors can walk through three galleries designed to provide a multi-cultural experience that highlight themes linked to the mission and vision of the new center. The existing gallery will focus on the Arizona Jewish Experience to preserve the rich heritage of Arizona Jewish Communities and to educate the public about Jewish contributions to Arizona and American life. One of the newly constructed galleries will be dedicated to timely special exhibitions that are focused on topics such as history, racism, genocide, and promoting respect and mutual understanding between people of diverse backgrounds.
The primary new gallery space is dedicated to the Holocaust - to collect, preserve and communicate to future generations the story of this unprecedented tragedy; to preserve the memory of those who suffered and to educate a new generation of young people. This gallery will also feature the We Remember Holocaust Memorial Art Project by local artist, Robert Sutz including life masks and portraits of many survivors with a connection to Arizona as well as other Holocaust-related art.
We hope you will consider supporting our vision through this campaign, recognizing the importance of this Center and the impact it will have on our community. With your support, this campaign will allow the Arizona Jewish Historical Society to make a critical investment to expand our footprint so that we can educate and encourage a more inclusive community.
